Manx Sport and Recreation’s Sport Development Unit are currently recruiting for the MSR Coach Award and Sure Sports Leader Programme.
The Sports Leaders Programme is a 10 month initiative aimed at Year 11 students after they have completed their final exams in the summer term. The programme aims to provide leaders with the knowledge, skills, experience and support they need to become competent sports coaches in the future.
During the programme every participant will attended a week-long camp, receiving training in coaching skills, safeguarding and protecting children, emergency first aid and disability inclusion.
Following the training week, they will then be mentored over the summer months by qualified and experienced Manx Sport and Recreation (MSR) coaches.
Between September and April, they will be developing their coaching skills as volunteers at MSR activities, community clubs and local schools, recording their hours in logbooks.
There are many incentives to participating on the course with Sure providing rewards for the most hours logged each term and extra training opportunities available for logging a specific number of hours. The Sports Leader of the Year will also receive a prize and will be invited to collect this at the annual Isle of Man Sports Awards.
The MSR Coach Award is an extension of the Sports Leaders’ programme whereby participants can complete additional training and mentoring to further develop their coaching during each of the school holiday periods. The MSR Coach Award will build on the learning provided during the Sports Leaders week and will challenge participants to develop their coaching styles, build on confidence and to deliver high quality coaching sessions and on completion will be accredited with an NVQ Level 2 in Activity Leadership.
