Disabled Access

The NSC is committed to providing access to its facilities, activities and equipment to all sections of the community. Periodic disability access audits are conducted in order to identify areas where improvements can be made.

The following facilities, equipment and adaptations are in place, in order to make the NSC as accessible as possible for its wide ranging customer base:

  • Dedicated parking bays for customers with a disability
  • Ramp entrance leading to the reception area
  • Wide access front entrance doors
  • Low level reception counter
  • Lift access to lower ground floor
  • Easy access to the:
    • Athletics Track and the Outdoor Pitch
    • Swimming Pool area
    • Sports Halls
    • Squash Courts
    • Bowls Hall
    • Cafe area
  • Tactile floor surfaces leading to front entrance steps and indoor stairs
  • Newly refurbished accessible changing room with track hoist system, adjustable bed and sink.
  • Swimming Pool hoist and Wheelchair Pool Pod (including Aqua Tilt Chair)
  • Swimming Pool stretcher bed that attaches to the Pool hoist
  • Portable hoist for people with disabilities
  • Gradual descending steps to access both the NSC training and flow pools 
  • Wheelchair provision
  • Accessible Fitness Suite equipment 
  • Bowls Hall - accessible ramp / entrance 
  • Shot Put, Discus and Hammer throwing disability access fittings
  • Large print leaflets

Additional Support for Gym / Swim and NSC Classes:

Bringing in support (FREE OF CHARGE) to the NSC is available to individuals in receipt of Disability Living Allowance (DLA). This is ONLY permitted when the carer, helper or friend is accompanying the individual in an an assisting capacity only.

Terms and Conditions:

  • Only ONE carer, helper or friend is allowed to accompany you in the gym and or to classes.
  • If you require more two or more carers to support you, please contact the Disability Sports Development Officer (688575) directly.
  • Carers are permitted to utilise the NSC equipment but they are NOT ALLOWED to follow their own gym routines and leave the individual unaccompanied.
  • If you and your carer would like to use the NSC Gym, both yourself and your carer will need to attend an NSC Gym Induction. This can be arranged through the NSC Reception (688588)
  • If the member or carer is misusing the initiative, MSR has permission to remove the member and carer from the facility.
